You’ve all seen these pits before. Mini Cone Head, Standard Pit and a Large Cone Head

large cone head
I simply took the mini cone head and a large cone head, split the base size difference and made a Macdorman size pit with no hood but an over sized swing grate for easy loading of firewood

mini conehead is a 12″ base, the Macdorman is 14 1/2″
Seam welded to avoid warping
Bottom plate is butt welded
Ash dump in a hexagon shape just like the base

Stand Assembly
leveling out the stand, still didnt work the way I wanted
i used 2″ tube steel to ensure the stand wouldnt move around
used a 1″ square tube to force the stand and pit squared up

Flared the grate at the same angle as the pit
the pit weight? 130lbs
Standing 24″ tall
To make the swing grate I used a tele a post, since the inner and out piping has zero play in the two pieces of pipe
I’m a complete idiot! I do this for fun or to pass the time. Always wear your safety glasses, gloves, welding jacket bulletproof vest and a condom!
